As of today, SecondLearning.de is renamed to secondlearning.org. This is the first step in the direction of an open source 3D eLearning project, which has been started in early 2010. The goal is to provide a standardized platform which enables k-2's and Universities, driving 3D VR simulations for their learning requirements without spending much of time, effort and money, providing such technologies to the students.

SecondLearning.de started with Universität Augsburg (IMB Media) in Germany a case study for figuring out the usability of the system for various simulations regarding social skills and communication capabilities. The system itself is based on OpenSimulator, which is an Open Source Project, able providing 3D Realtime VR environments.

As education should be free to 'the world', secondlearning.de changed it's mind and tries to find a way, providing the technique and the environment to educational services, institutes, K2's, etc. for free - if possible. Therefor a project will be started soon, involving official  parties, which are hopefully willing to help.

During the transition time, the SecondLearning Grid continues to be available for the educational facilities, but registration for all others will be closed until the scope of the project has been agreed by all involved parties.
